What
is a gyroplane ?
It is a type of rotorcraft that obtains lift from a freely turning,
non-powered rotor, and is propelled forward by a forward thrusting
propeller. The rotor of the gyroplane is turning in auto-rotation
due to the air flowing through it in an upwardly direction. In
contrast, in helicopters the air flows through the rotor in a
downwardly direction.

Gyroplanes are a phenomenon, because unlike any other aircraft,
they have the ability to fly under seemingly impossible conditions.
Just like the sycamore seed, which uses its natural aerodynamics to
glide down earthwards, the SYCAMORE gyroplane also uses the air to
gently fan its blades. Engine failure does not render the Gyro
incapable of flying and is still able to manoeuvre sufficiently for
safe landing
